Earth Day

CCNY Tech is proud to host an Earth Day cell phone and mobile device recycling program.  The program will benefit the families affected in the Ukraine.  We are partnering with local organizations or businesses in the Utica area on collecting old mobile devices.  CCNY Tech will either resell, resell parts or responsibly recycle the devices.  100% of the proceeds will be donated to Catholic Relief Services to benefit the families of Ukraine.

The Process

CCNY Tech will be placing secure containers at our partners locations, on Earth Day, April 22,2022, for approximately 60 days.  After 60 days, CCNY Tech will collect the devices and bring them to our secure facility where the data will be handled in accordance with R2 certified policies and either resold or recycled.  When the process is complete, all proceeds from the program will be paid to Catholic Relief Services.

Items that are valuable toward the charity are:

• iPhones & Smartphones
• iPads & tablets
• Handheld game consoles
• Basic cell phones

*Please ensure batteries are installed in your device and not loose

Items not part of the program:

• Instructional manuals
• Car chargers
• Protective cases

Common questions and/or concerns:

Is this process secure and do I have to worry about my confidential data?

CCNY Tech is a certified R2 recycler.  This means all recycled equipment that goes through the facility is data sanitized or destroyed.  For your own peace of mind, please deactivate your devices prior to donating them.

How do I remove my personal data and pass code?

Most devices can be easily reset by going to the Settings menu.  For specifics on your device, you can either search online for your specific device or go here to for step-by-step instructions to factory reset iPhone, Samsung and more.

How does this provide value for the families of the Ukraine?

CCNY Tech will determine if the device has value to be resold.  If not, CCNY Tech will responsibly recycle the device which will provide a return of approximately $3 per pound.  All proceeds will be collected and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Catholic Relief Services.

Should I include accessories?

To ensure getting the most for a device, accessories will be part of a sale.  Any unsold accessories will be responsibly recycled.
